Fire & Ice

I’m off to the desert for a bachelor party weekend, looks a little warm but should be a good time. Going to the Creek and hopefully ride the Slickrock trail on Sunday, which I’ve never done. If you are going to be in Colorado this weekend, I’d say there’s a good chance the right Laundry […]

Rifle Clean Up

The annual Rifle Clean Up/Most Raging Party on the Western Slope is taking place this Saturday, Sept 30th. There will be a variety of trail projects you can help with, and of course the party/bbq afterwards with free food and beer. More information is available on the Climbing Mag website. This is always a great […]

We Have Now Entered the Twilight Zone

I just checked the weather for the weekend, and what do you know, it’s supposed to rain/snow. Do I see a pattern here? Apparently we have entered some kind of alternate universe where it rains/snows every weekend and is perfect every Monday. Can’t this kind of thing wait until winter? This is enough to drive […]

Black Canyon

Despite the funky weather over the weekend we managed to get a good bit of climbing in. Worked on some new routes on Saturday, got snowed on, good times. Saturday night drove down to the Black and got a little sleep before heading down the Cruise gully to climb Journey Home. This was my first […]

Fall Days

It’s a great time of year to be a climber The leaves are changing, the temperature is perfect and you are hopefully in shape from a summer of climbing. Fall is my favorite time of year, no matter what part of the country I’m in. I definitely get nostalgic for the northeast this time of […]

Be Your Own Expert

I came across a cool website the other day, www.squidoo.com. The basic idea is that you build a “lense” with information about something you are knowledgeable on, and eventually they’ll have a huge database of user generated content. I just started toying with it, you can check out my Colorado climbing lense here. Seems like […]

Reel Rock Review

Last night in Carbondale (and Boulder) the Reel Rock Film tour had its world premier, featuring shortened versions of Peter Mortimer’s new film First Ascent, and Josh Lowell’s Dosage IV. I’d seen a preview of both at the Outdoor Retailer show in SLC in August. These versions were more polished, and very enjoyable. I thought […]

Feedback Contest Coming Soon

Get ready, the first of hopefully many contests is coming soon. I need to wrap up some sponsorship details first. Basically, I’m looking for feedback on the route grades at Thompson Creek (and any other places listed on the site), as they are changing as the climbs get cleaner. You’ll have a chance to win […]

Reel Rock Film Tour This Thursday

Just a reminder the Reel Rock Film tour premiers this thursday at the Crystal Theater in Carbondale. The proceeds go to benefit HERA, tickets are $25. There are only about 125 seats in the Crystal, be sure to get your ticket soon, it’s sure to be a great night!

Welcome to the Blog!

Up to this point, I’ve run the mainpage on SplitterChoss.com in sort of a “blog” fashion, but mostly I had in mind just to let people know when an update had been added to the site. From now on, any lenghty posts will appear here on the blog. Be sure to check back often, or […]

Bulldog Creek Dog Walk (IV WI 4+)

Hayden Carpenter and Tom Bohanon recently repeated an obscure ice climb on the south side of Mt Sopris. Given a brief mention in Jack Robert’s ice guide, Bulldog Creek Walk is described as being 100 meters of WI 4. What they found was seven pitches of ice in a remote setting that makes for one […]
