Alpine Ice Season is Here

On our way to the East Coast on Monday, we flew right over the top of Longs Peak, and from the plane it appeared that the Smear of Fear was in shape. Hard to tell exactly how much was there, but it was very obvious. I’ve always thought it’s cool that when you fly from Eagle to Denver you go right over the top of Longs. Probably not as cool when you are standing on telks-ice.jpghe peak, but anyway…

I also got a report of a new ice line that was done last week on Capitol Peak, about 8 pitches of ice and mixed climbing up to M6-7. No doubt the right hand Laundry Chute is holding some good ice right now too. With consistent new snow and warm temps over the last couple of weeks, the Elk Range is probably sporting a few other gems at the moment. The window often doesn’t last long though, so you best get out there and get after it!

Yeah, I can’t believe we’re talking about ice climbing already either…
