Crystal River Valley

Climbers have been poking around for years on the rock in the Crystal River Valley. Folks like Michael Kennedy and Harvey Carter explored many of the outcrops, and occasionally you'll find an old pin or sling as a reminder of their passage. Without a focus on sport climbing, many areas were dismissed and they moved on to the next thing.

These overlooked crags have seen more recent development as sport climbing has opened up a whole new realm of potential.

The Narrows is a beautiful spot. Soaring walls of granite tower above the Crystal River. Often you can't hear the highway, only the sound of the water pushing on to the ocean. There are some good walls here, the featured rock really lends itself to fun climbing and the setting is top notch.

Coal Creek is a beautiful valley west of the town of Redstone. There are sport climbs here, along with some great bouldering.

The Redstone Boulders are the classic afterwork spot. A high concentration of problems makes it easy to get a quick workout in. In the fall of 2005, a new area was added to these blocks.

The Redstein Crag is a sport climbing zone located high above the River Boulders.
