Old Climbing Websites Were Ugly!

Remember what old climbing websites used to look like? We don’t either, but thought it’d be fun to hop in the Wayback Machine to take a trip down memory lane. A few of these made us laugh out loud, we hope you’ll enjoy them as well.

Gripped (11.3.99)

There are no words, this is beyond classic.

ClimbingBoulder.com (1.24.01)

The site that was the foundation of what would turn into MountainProject.com.

Rockclimbing.com (2.1.98)

Apparently this started as a Utah-based site, didn’t know that.

Rock and Ice (2.15.97)

You guys sure have come a long way from these humble beginnings.

Climbing (10.31.96)

You too, Climbing mag folks.

8a.nu (5.25.02)

I love the Figure 8, old school!

SuperTopo (4.22.01)

Funny, not much has changed.

Alpinist (7.30.03)

Compared to some of the others, this was cutting edge!

Gunks.com (1.19.97)

Hard to even tell what is going on here.

Neice.com (4.19.00)

This website fueled my ice climbing stoke in college, good memories!

NewEnglandBouldering.com (9.16.00)

It looks like these folks aren’t even around any more.

BigUpProductions.com (8.7.04)

How fun!

ClimbingNarc

Brian, they didn’t have any good screenshots saved, any chance you have one you could share?

SplitterChoss.com (5.16.06)

And of course our own humble beginnings. Ah, the good old days…

There’s probably some other good ones out there, post up if you find any and we can add to this list.
